Using the Scan Tool Procedure:
1) Turn the ignition off.
2) Locate the vehicle’s 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC).
3) Connect the scan tool cable connector to the vehicle’s DLC. The cable connector is keyed and can only be installed one way. (If you have trouble connecting the cable connector to the DLC, rotate the connector 180 degrees and try again.
4) Turn the ignition on. Do not start the engine.
5) When the scan tool cable connector is properly connected to the vehicle’s DLC, the LCD display will show instructions to select a new scan.
6) Press the New Scan button and the display will show a series of messages showing the OBD2 protocol until the vehicle protocol is displayed.

Notes:
If the scan tool cannot communicate with the vehicle’s computer, a message that a link cannot be established with the vehicle will be displayed.
-Confirm that the ignition is on.
-Check that the scan tool’s OBD2 connector is securely connected to the vehicle’s DLC.
-Verify that the vehicle is OBD2 compliant.
-Turn the ignition off and wait about 10 seconds. Turn the ignition back on and repeat the process starting from step 6.
